Here at Jimmy’s house, you will feel like part of the family as you watch snowboard DVDs together, cook in the kitchen (and see who wins Jimmy’s house master chef), drink together and ride together. After a hard day of snowboarding all day, come home, relax and warm up back at Jimmy’s house and kick back with some extreme Jenga.
Goryu is a tight community with friendly locals and a rich Japanese culture. Despite being so close to Tokyo, Hakuba flaunts the traditional aspect of Japan, being surrounded by mountains and trees and traditional culture. A popular holiday destination for Australians, New Zealanders, Canadians, and people from all over the world, Hakuba continues to impress by maintaining Japanese culture and withholding from excessive western influences.
Jimmy’s house is an ideal place to stay for snow lovers, to make the most of your trip in Hakuba!
Location
Hakuba, home to the 1998 winter Olympics, is now said to be the ‘new snow craze.’ A varied and exciting tourist region with great snow, food and wine, friendly people and a japanese cultural experience to offer, Hakuba has it all.
Jimmys house is situated in the heart of Goryu, a suburb of Hakuba. Goryu is a small Japanese town that is filled with excited snow adventurers during the winter season, and with mountain bikers and bushwalkers in the summer.
Cultural activities
• Hot springs are an important part of Japanese culture, being said to ‘iyasu’- soothe the body and soul. It is a great non pharmacological way to relax and soothe sore muscles. Here in Japan, particular hot springs are known to cure specific diseases and people traditionally and still do travel to famous hot springs to cure symptoms of arthritis, dermatitis etc. There is also a saying in Japan ‘Hadaka no Tsukiai’ which defines a even closer relationship after bathing. After being soothed in an onsen, people are thought to be able to relax and stop guarding themselves and say things they wouldn’t be able to say before bathing together in an onsen. Basically ‘we are close buddies since we have bathed together’. Jimmy can teach you the etiquette of bathing in a local hot spring as you immerse yourself into the culture of Japan.
• Visit the local Jinja/shrine or the Otera/temple
• Buy a hot drink from the iconic vending machine ( they are everywhere)
• Take a day tour to the snow monkeys
• Hang with the local Japanese crew at the local pub
• Have a short stop off in Tokyo on your way back to the airport and check out what Tokyo is all about too!
A little about Jimmy’s house.
Jimmy’s house is successfully up and running today purely initiated by the love of Japan and snow culture. Having lived here, we interact with other businesses who are neighbors and friends, and so we can give you deals on restaurants, ski/board hire and information on what is on offer. Jimmy’s house hopes that by staying here, you can experience the same love that started this house up in the first place.
